James – Chapter 2 – Thursday

Read

James 2:18-20

18Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” I say, “I can’t see your faith if you don’t have good deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds.”

19Do you still think it’s enough just to believe that there is one God? Well, even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror! 20Fool! When will you ever learn that faith that does not result in good deeds is useless?

Reflect

Have you ever seen a movie that you really liked? What did you do after you saw it? Did you keep it to yourself? Of course not! You most likely told everyone you saw how good that movie was. Have you ever been in need and someone came to help you? Besides being thankful, did that change your behavior the next time you saw someone else in need?

That is what James is saying in our verses today. Because we have been saved by our faith, we should not only be grateful but we should also be changed so that the love that God showed to us will reflect from us to others. Our faith is the advertisement of God’s grace!

Respond

If you believe in God but don’t act on that belief, how can you be assured of your faith?

Is it possible to believe in God without having a relationship with him?

What are ways today that you can show your faith to others?
