Daniel 2:46-49
46Then King Nebuchadnezzar bowed to the ground before Daniel and worshiped him, and he commanded his people to offer sacrifices and burn sweet incense before him. 47The king said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is the God of gods, the Lord over kings, a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this secret.”
48Then the king appointed Daniel to a high position and gave him many valuable gifts. He made Daniel ruler over the whole province of Babylon, as well as chief over all his wise men. 49At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be in charge of all the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the king’s court.
Reflect
Once again we see that although situations seem lost, God is always faithful to us, if we put our faith in him. Daniel, completely innocent, found himself and his friends in danger of losing their lives. From any human perspective, the best that they could hope for would be a quick death. But Daniel had faith in God. He knew that God was the revealer of mysteries. He knew that God had brought him and his friends this far for a purpose. He knew that God had a plan. As difficult as the situation presented itself, Daniel had faith that God would come through. He used the wisdom that God gave him and did only what he could do and then let God do what only God could do.
What was the result of Daniels faithfulness? God reward him and his friends beyond what any of them could have thought possible. The king made Daniel ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief of all wise men. It was fitting that Daniel’s friends got to share in his advancement, because they accomplished much of the victory through their prayers.
Respond
- Why was it significant that the king bowed to the ground before Daniel?
- Did the king realize that it was God who revealed the dream to Daniel or did he think Daniel could interpret dreams on his own?
- When we get into situations that seem out of control, what is the most important thing we can do?
