Everything is Meaningless: Ecclesiastes 1:1-11
Today’s passage is Ecclesiastes 1:1-11. Please join us in study.
“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless!”
Quite the introduction. Right off the bat, we get one of the Teacher’s main themes for Ecclesiastes. The word translated in the NIV as ‘meaningless’ or as ‘vanity’ in some other translations essentially is ‘breath’ or ‘vapor’ with that word repeated for ‘utterly meaningless’, the breath of a breath. Everything has no more substance than a breath does, and even less as if breath could breathe, everything would have less substance than the breath of a breath.
