It had been a long trip already. For some reason unknown to us, Jesus just “had” to go through Samaria to get back home. The easy route, although longer, is to go up the Jordan valley. Walking through Samaria meant a lot of hill climbing. Up and down and up again. And besides, we would have to deal with the Samaritans. That is never easy.
